The Spanish camp that later became the location of Los Angeles was situated near the Indian village. The camp was destroyed in the Great Flood of 1815, but the great tree survived. The tree later died in 1892 and was cut down. An examination found that it was approximately 400 years old.

The cottonwood tree was very common along rivers in early California. As commercialization has lowered water levels, these riparian trees have vanished from many riverbanks. Early explorers used the cottonwood?s riparian nature to assist in finding water.

Willow trees are another widespread r! iparian tree growing in the region. The tree leaves were utili! zed by C alifornia Indian tribes for medicine, while the small branches were used for basket making and the larger branches for wood.

You Guru Needs A Hug

Strange name for an article, don't you think? But it did get your attention, and I want to hold your attention because I have something very important I want you to read, so please let me explain *why* I chose this name.

I don't like the term 'guru', at least when it's applied loosely, as it is on the net. I've never thought of, or called myself a guru, but people call me one pretty often. So are many other Internet marketers.

This article is not about 'gurudom' though. It's about the responsibility to those people who hold us in high enough regard to think of us as gurus, or just someone who can help them along their way, and ask for our help.

Our mission in life is to better other's lives. In doing so, our life is made better.

If you find yourself in the position where people are asking for your expertise and help, there can only be 2 reasons for it:

1. You are the Real Deal and people trust that you can offer genuine and helpful! advice and assistance, or

2. You've done a pretty good job of pretending to be the above.

Hopefully you fall into the category of the former.

Now, you really have only a coupleof choices when someone does ask for your assistance:

1. You can make an honest effort to lend a helping hand, or

2. You can ignore their request, or, perhaps try to sell them the latest, greatest product that will solve their problem and make some money in the process.

This article would not exist had it not been for a rather lengthy and heartwrenching email I received the other day. It came from a client of mine, now a friend, who has been struggling the past few years trying to make a go of it in the Internet marketing arena. Very tough assignment as a newcomer in this post-September 11 economy especially in light of all the marketing products flooding cyberspace these days!

What was remarkable about his take on things was his statement that of all ! the "guru's" that he had purchased products from (most of whic! h promis ed additional help after the purchase), and had requested some simple guidance from, I was the *only* person who ever responded. More than a couple of times as I recall. What a sad state of affairs in my opinion!

See, I made a vow when I began to notice (uncomfortably) this guru phenomena that I would do my very best to help anyone who felt I could help, and asked me for it. I think it's not only an honor and a priviledge, but a duty. To this day, I believe I have lived up to that pledge (and much to the once- in-a-while dismay of my family members who understandably grumble about the endless hours I spend answering email:-)

As I did with my former pre-Internet mainstreet business, my inner heart tells me this IS the way that I need to continue to do business online.

Why?

I can tell you in no uncertain terms that this philosophy is largely responsible for the success I have enjoyed for the past 6 years, while so many are struggling or have failed ! on the Internet. You must have come across countless success stories of *real* gurus who have achieved massive fame and/or wealth from simply focusing on the needs of, and helping, others.

Giving=Receiving is really one of the few great laws of this wonderful universe!

Having said that, there is usually a yang for every yin, right? And here's that side of things.

*Some* people will try to abuse your giving spirit and attempt to dominate your time, as if it was their God-given *right*. You must be able to recognize when you're being taken advantage of and then politely say, like I do, something like "the clock will have to start ticking now and my consulting rate is $375.00 per hour.":-) You'll see how quickly the conversation stops!

There will be others who are simply "takers", that will not even acknowledge, let alone thank you for your help. Weeks ago, I spent over an hour (on a Sunday nonetheless) doing some research and responding in-depth to! a very difficult question (this should really have been a con! sultatio n!) that was posed to me by someone in seemingly dire circumstances. Sent the email twice (again a week later/neither bounced) because I sensed the importance of a resolution for this person and didn't want to take the chance they overlooked it. Not a hi, hello or how are you from them since.

I've never expected any kind of "award" for efforts like this, but a nice email from someone stating they are appreciative of your efforts is always a nice little *reward*. Sometimes the reward can come in the form of a high quality fruit-and- truffles package that arrives every Christmas without fail from a wonderful couple I helped just one time a few year ago!

But neither thankless or intrusive people should ever have the power to make us stop helping those who need our assistance. It goes with the territory of being in a position to influence and even lead; a position quite frankly, we should be very grateful to be in.

My advice is easy, but not always simple to! follow through on. If you find yourself in the fortunate position where people think enough about what you have to offer that they will ask you for assistance, then make the same vow I did. Help them. Every last one of them!

In cyber-terms, Sell a MEG but Give a GIG. It will surely help others, but in the end, it will help YOU even more!

Recommendations:-

At present, even in big Metropolitan Cities where po! pulation figures have crossed 50 lacs, one level flyover above ground are being constructed. All flyovers have been constructed in National Capital Region of Delhi specially the flyovers constructed on Ring Road of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and National Highway No. 8 Gurgaon are not solving the complete traffic problems in the absence of multi level flyovers. The long queues of local traffic Jam can always be seen below single level flyover constructed only recently. Therefore, Town Planner should recommend at least the construction of Multi Level Flyovers on all Major Road Junctions where population of Metropolitan Cities have exceeded the figures of 50 lacs.


Since, construction of multi level flyovers are considered part of urban infrastructure and as urban infrastructure is being developed on self financing principles, therefore, creation of such infrastructure in every Metropolitan City should not become a problem to any Government.

This system will not create any problem and financial burden on those persons who want to construct new houses. In old houses, some changes are required in plumbing works only. Since, there is no problem for enforcing this technology in new houses to be constructed on vacant plots; therefore, Govt. should enforce this technology by making amendments in the Building Bye Laws so that coming generation could be benefited from this system. This system will also lower down the required capacity of water supply and sewerage net works of the Government.

The first con is the antithesis of one of the pros, being that you are depending on the efforts of others to help grow your business, you can recruit until the day you die, but if your 'recruitees' are duds, you will never have a team large enough for substantial income. This leads into the next con: The residuals paid by the companies are ridiculously low. No matter the product or service you are selling, many companies offer as little as 0.! 25%, that's right, 1/4% on the retail price. So even if you ha! ve a mon thly recurring customer that is paying $60 for your product, that comes to a beautiful 15 cents a month. Get ten $60 customers, you make the company $600, and they pay you $1.50. Some MLM companies brag a whopping 1-4% residual payout. This leads us to the next con. Confusing and constantly changing compensation plans, bonuses, promotions, etc. You may never actually know what you are going to make and good luck staying on top of it well enough to explain it simply to a potential recruit. Some MLM companies have so many products and services that you cannot possibly focus on one to market, while others have such ridiculously unpopular products that the probability of getting month after month recurring customers is slim to none.

Bonnet Cleaning Sucks! I have heard this many times. The truth is it works great for those in between cleanings. It?s safe for most carpet fibers and does remove the top soil. Bonnet cleaning does not get the dirt an germs deep in the carpet.
Buffing just smears dirt! Again this is not really true. When you use a buffer system you do get a deep clean because the brush works it?s way into the carpet. When someone uses this type of cleaning they vacuum and rake the carpet first. Then use enzymes to eat the oil i! n the carpet. The shampoo they use is non residue so it does n! ot attra ct dirt. After the cleaning is done you should vacuum 24hours later to remove the loose dirt. With this method you can use it every 3 months and have your carpets always looking great. On the down side if you have a very heavily soiled area you may want to consider steam cleaning first and then using the buffering system for maintenance.

Quitting Is Not An Option In My Home Based Business

We have all heard the stories about those who started a home business only to quit a few short weeks or months later. It seems to many people expect overnight wealth or fame. They do their research, find a company that they feel was a perfect fit and then expect huge income for doing a little bit of work.

I think the key word in this has been missed, business, and that is what this is, a business. Just because you do not get out of bed, get in your car and go to a brick building does not mean you have to put alot less effort into it. In my opinion, being able to cut the early morning doldrums and drives would serve as an incentive to work even harder at building a strong and successful business. I know that is just one of the things that has driven me each day to go that extra mile, make that next call and place just one more ad before calling it a day.


When I decided that this was the route I was meant to take to earn a living, I never expected ! quick riches. I will not say I wasn't hoping for such, but I knew that the people we hear about who find this success in just 2 weeks are the exception instead of the rule.

One day I decided to quit.... I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality.... I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.

"God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came ! from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo."
In th e second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo".

He said, "In the third year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit."

He said, "Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant. But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle."

He said to me, "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don't compare yourself to others."

He said, "The bamboo had a different pur! pose than the fern, yet, they both make the forest beautiful." "Your time will come," God said to me. "You will rise high!"

"How high should I rise?" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise?",He asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned.

The people who grow fast and furious are the fern, but most of us, people like me, are the bamboo. We are growing strong roots by attending training classes, learning about advertising and building relationships. Whether it takes us 3 months, 6 months, a year or even two, it is what we must do to have a business that is on a strong foundation. We want a business that will continue to grow as high as it possibly can, but we need that foundation to keep it strong, to keep it from crumbling.


I like to refer to my start in this world of internet marketing as me being an infant. I had never even tried anything like this before. There were days I got frustrated and won! dered if I had made the right decision, but as I continued to ! grow my roots, something amazing happened. It was like somebody flipped a switch and the light in my head came on, I was getting it. I suddenly knew the "lingo", I understood what I had to do and most of all, I believed I could do it. Once this happened, I saw even bigger and better things come my way. People were seeking me out, asking me questions, they were asking me, who only a few months earlier could not have given the definition of back office.


Do what you must do to see your business succeed, attend training, seek out those who are strong and knowledgable, build lasting relationships so that you have a team to cheer you on if you feel like giving up. Surround yourself with these and you will see great things begin to happen like I have. My business is more successful each day that comes. It would not be so if I had given up and quit before I had even given myself a chance.


Giving up on this is really giving up on yourself. Henry Ford, founder of the F! ord Motor Company said, "If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right." What a true statement. If you think you can, you can and will, if you think you can't, you can't and won't. He also said, "You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do." So put away all of the I can'ts and stop saying I will do it tomorrow. Get busy today growing those strong roots of a successful business. My own grandfather always said, "can't never could, won't never would and tomorrow never comes." Remember those words and tell yourself, I can, I will, tomorrow is today and today is yesterday, I better get busy now.

What if we had really understood the power of the internet? Oops there we go again, playing the what if game. Such a bad habit!

Of course you can buy MLM leads, they are everywhere, but not all MLM leads are created equal. Have you ever bought leads and discovered that you were the 12th person to call them? Write a blog. Search engines love blogs, we actually have several, each designed with a different purpose in mind.

Throw in a little dose of forum marketing and social marketing and you are on your way to generating free MLM leads on the internet.

We were told that it would take a long time to see results but it didn't. We started generating our own leads within days and now we can produce leads at will. If that's not enough we do it for FREE.

You can even generate leads and get a #1 ranking in the search engines at the same time. We went to #1 in 40 days with more than 5 million competitors and it was easier than you'd think.

Make Money From Telling Lies on The Internet! Part I

OK, so here we go:

I have recently embarked on what I thought would be a weird and wonderful money making adventure online - I'm the guy that believed the hype, who believed I could do a few easy to 'Internet' type things that "anybody can do!" (yeah right) and sit back and watch the dough role in as I perfected my Rome Total War skills.....anyway.

I began in earnest in July 2007, I was watching daytime TV (possibly Trisha, possibly Jeremy Kyle), I forget, some welfare, skuzz ball stay at home and do bugger all infotainment show; when I was awoken from my stupor by a friendly lady, a friendly lady who was talking about ways losers like me and most likely everyone else watching the show could make money! huh Money! and what's more these were things that could be done in my spare time i.e. my very precious and hard earned non game playing time. Excellent, I remember rubbing my hands whilst I got my pen a! nd got ready to right.

Write then, here are the things I learned and what I did:

The figures and activity levels below are real, an honest assessment as to whether you will be more or less arsed then I, should give you a good indication if any of what follows.... is worth your while.

Online Surveys The knowledge I was given was concerning the existence of, and money making opportunities with, online surveys. You may or may not know that people get paid for their opinions? I didn't know this but thought it was worth a try. I then proceeded to search the net for companies that offered these services. I found, bookmarked and signed up for about 40. As I am in the UK most of these were UK based, there may be more on your planet.

Note: I wasted more then half of my full 2 days research (at this point I was uncharacteristically motivated - could smell the cheese baby!) finding and signing up for survey sites that either (1) Never replied (2) Had broken! sites or even more infuriating, broken forms - after filling ! them out - grrr (3) Were cons (4) Were scammy sites designed to collect e-mail addresses and or personal information either to e-mail you crap or steal your identity, which leads me to:

Top Tip 1: Sign up for and use a throwaway e-mail address: Yahoo, Hotmail, Google and AOL all allow you to sign up for an e-mail account very easily. Don't use your main e-mail address until you are comfortable that the sites are legit.

Top Tip 2: Do your homework: It may seam obvious but it can't do any harm to spend 10 minutes or so Googling each company, looking at forums and quality A+ blogs such as this, as a rule if people have had a bad time with a company then its a fair bet, so will you. Ask yourself when looking at survey sites '"Would Tesco, Barclays or Marks & Spencers ask this company for market research services?" If the answer is no ..... don't bother.

Top Tip 3: Never, never, never, never pay anyone for information about surveys. I may be wrong but I believe that ! any company who tries to take a 'membership fee' or 'setup charge' are crooks. Legitimate companies are crying out for real people with real opinions. Types of Central Heating Systems

There are many different types of Central Heating Systems available. Most if not all of these Central Heating Systems comprise of a boiler, radiator and pipework.

? Reduces the risk of leaking

? Can be flushed out under pressure if needed by the mains water supply

A sealed Central Heating System is a packaged unit with all the necessary controls and safety devices. The water for a sealed Central Heating System is supplied direct from the main water supply. It feeds directly from the main water supply.

Normal variations of pressure can be allowed in a sealed system through a pressure vessel that contains compressed gas; this is separated from the sealed system water by a diaphragm. If the pressure becomes too high in a sealed Central Heating System; a safety valve will allow water to escape from the system and if the pressure drops too low a valve will open to refill the system with water.

Central Heating Systems are worth the money as they are cheaper to run than any other form of heating. They also offer you all round control which is more than most heating systems do.

Taking better photographs can make a huge difference in how you are able to promote and sell your work. It is well worth practicing to improve, and worth getting feedback on your photography from experienced photographers. Fortunately, common mistakes are easy to avoid if you learn how to look for them.

Perhaps the most common mistake photographers make is not filling the frame. Your art or craft should appear large in the photograph, with little wasted space. Usually all you have to do is get closer to take the photo, or to zoom in. Along with this, sometimes people will hold a camera horizontally even when they are photographing something that is more tall than wide. For shooting tall items, turn your camera on it?s side into portrait position, before taking the photo. This will reduce the amount of wasted space.

Some areas may be too dark to show any detail. When this happens you need more lighting. So! metimes this is called a fill light. You can use a large white board out of view to reflect light into the darkened area.

Many three dimensional objects are better shown with the main light coming across the front at an angle, rather than straight on. This is especially true of objects where texture is important, such as knitting.

Setting up a permanent area to photograph your work will make it more convenient to shoot. Choose a wall or table in an area with good lighting conditions, often near a window. You can attach a large sheet of white paper or a bed sheet to the wall above where you will be photographing, and then bring the bottom of the sheet over the front of the table to drape in a curve. This will make a simple background on which to display your work.
